Introduction: Hi!

Hi I’m Adam, welcome to my yoga for runners workshop, or running for yogis workshop.

I enjoy running and love the feeling of being out in the world and the rhythmic meditation that occurs when long distance running. I’m registered E-RYT yoga teach as well and feel there are mutual benefits to running and yoga for the mind and body.

I have done a handful of full marathons (26.2 miles) a bunch of half marathons (13.1 miles) and countless 10k and 5k races. I have a fairly consistent run schedule, but is definitely dependent on if I’m training for a specific race or not.

I am not very competitive. But, I like to do well and I often prioritize finishing the race over finishing the race ahead of others.

I finished my first half marathon years ago and the main thought I remember afterwards was “how could anyone do that times 2 for a full marathon?” And I was set on not being within my ability. I feel like yoga training and learning how to be more confident and that I was in control meant that I could actually do a full marathon, and I did… a few of them so far. And I attribute that to yoga and the mindful benefits and physical benefits, especially for recovery.

This workshop is geared more towards long distance running and the combination of yoga practices into running. Sprinters may still find some techniques to help, but sprinting is not something I’m well acquainted with and I think the research on how yoga can help sprinters is slightly contentious.

This workshop is also focused on preparing the body and helping the body recover in hopes of prolonging ability to run and overall health.

Both yoga and running promote better overall physical health which can lead to overall better health in all aspects.

My goal with this workshop is to focus on 3 phases to help with the act of running and the recovery afterwards. Phase I we will discuss how warmups affect the body and the importance of Surya Namaskar A. We will talk through some anatomy tidbits before working in what we discuss into a short yoga practice. Phase II will be going for an actual run or walk using some of the techniques similar to a walking mindful meditation. Phase III will be focused on healing the muscles and stretching a little deeper and longer to promote healing. The workshop will provide attendees with some tools to take into their running or yoga practice to help both be lifelong journeys.
